doily's internet pickins: gender bender
LAURIE ANDERSON - HOMELAND
NASA's first artist-in-residence [!] and "music as art" pioneer Laurie Anderson releases her first studio album in 10 years, Homeland. Created in collaboration with husband Lou Reed, the ode to America features an assortment of vocals including those of Antony Hegarty, Tuvan throat singers as well as her male alter ego, Fenway Bergamot, realized with an "audio drag" filter. Pick up the album here or stream it at NPR Music.
VAGUE PAPER
In the same spirit as photographer Alec Soth's Fashion Magazine, Vague Paper is cheekily modeled after a fashion publication. Named after a satirical take on Vogue, Vague Paper parodies the fashion world at large, with gender-skewing, taboo-pushing content that is darkly humorous. Pick up back issues in their online shop, where you can also pre-order the next issue.
TRASH HUMPERS
After his last, most expensive production Mister Lonely, film maestro Harmony Korine returns to lo-fi video and all its imperfections with his latest release, Trash Humpers. Set in Nashville, the film follows elderly vaudevillians in tranny-esque costume as they commit acts of vandalism. Visit the film site or follow the Facebook page for upcoming screenings.
Enjoy the weekend.
